Therapy With a Difference...
Are you an intelligent and creative seeker of truth who has used traditional therapies and found them “ok” – but lacking? Are you someone on a path of recovery and healing seeking a way to connect more fully to your Soul? Are you more interested in growing and evolving into a more authentic you (rather than becoming “normal,” a carbon copy of everyone else)? Then Donna May and the depth psychology methods she utilizes could be for you.
Depth Psychology is a theoretic orientation that recognizes each individual has a Soul; each has a unique story and experience unfolding. Emotional pain and problems are symptoms that can compel you to grow, and move you to deeper levels of experience. Your symptoms are the seed wounds that initiate your growth, the deepening of your life roots, and the blooming of your most authentic Self.
The methods most utilized by Donna May include dream work and creative expression, using writing, art, music and other mediums to assist in the unfolding of the healing process.

Meet Donna May...
|

Hi. My name is Donna May and I am a therapist and educator with offices in Etna and Yreka, CA. I am passionate about my work which has been greatly informed by my own healing journey. I believe that all of us are out there searching and doing the best that we can. Sometimes we need outside help. In our small communities, sometimes we need someone to talk to who doesn't know us and/or who we know will keep our confidences while we work out the challenging issues in our lives.
Starting as a peer counselor over 28 years ago, I have been honored to be a healing witness to many people's stories. I have worked in residential AOD treatment, as a therapist for child, teen and adult survivors of physical and sexual abuse, and as a crisis intervention counselor in the rough and tumble high schools of Southern California. I was a mental health clinician at Siskiyou County Behavioral Health Services (SCBHS) for over eight years and spent my last year at SCBHS as the System Administrator for Drug & Alcohol Services. Since 2007 I have been solely in private practice. I offer individual (12 years and up) and group therapy. I also offer educational groups and classes on various subjects. I am best known for my work with individuals struggling with trauma issues, anxiety, depression, and my counseling and lecturing on codependency. Recently, I am also being sought out by individuals who are seeking to find their authentic voice and discover what their true calling is.
I got my M.A. from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Depth Psychology. Depth Psychology recognizes that we are motivated by both conscious and unconscious processes and growth and healing often require tools for healing on both levels. This method also recognizes the importance of honoring and working within an individual's culture and community. I believe that sometimes our soul wounds are what help us grow closer to who we really are, what our purpose is here on the planet. I can help you discover what this is for you.
Two of the "tools" I use most often are dream work and writing and I am often asked to lecture and do trainings to individuals, professionals and agencies on these methods. I also offer classes, groups and workshops on these topics (see below for current offerings). I am currently working on a book Writing For Recovery: Writing & Story For Personal and Community Healing.
To sum up me and my therapy style, I'd like to tell a story. When working at Siskiyou Co, I was co-facilitating a group with a colleague I will call Debbie. After awhile, she looked at me and said that I had a therapeutic style with one foot entrenched in the pragmatic tools necessary for recovery and the other foot in "woo-woo land." At the time, I wasn't sure what I thought about this, but today, I think it pretty much sums me up! You know, "woo-woo land" is sometimes where the true healing happens (Debbie went on to take a dream workshop and a writing class from me). If I can assist you on your healing journey, please give me a call!
Donna May is a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT), California License No: MFC 40621. To schedule an appointment and/or to find out more information about her classes & workshops call: 530-841-0911.

Testimonials...
HERE IS WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES IN ENGLISH 599 ~ LIFE STORY WRITING:
"...I could learn to feel my memories-and more importantly to give myself permission to feel others' memories...a real growing experience - I have gained a lot of perspective -- and that was what I needed and what I did not know to want." ~ John Walsh
" I like that by giving me a subject to write it gives me a spring board into things that have been locked up in my head, that should maybe be addressed...this is the first time I have taken an instructed class and ended up benefiting by it. I enjoy this class so much because I am doing the thing I enjoy -- writing--at home, something else always comes first and I never get around to it." ~ Terry Zuniga
"I like the friendliness among classmates...the class was fun. Laughter was part of the curriculum." Allen
WHAT CODEPENDENCY RECOVERY GROUP MEMBERS ARE REPORTING:
"I like that what is said stays in the group, which gives a sense of security. I also really enjoyed the handouts, which coincided with the topic....I learned a great deal of information on how to identify when I am being codependent. Your knowledge was stimulating and empowering." ~ Michelle K
"What I learned in the group: A) That I have almost zero boundaries; B) How important it is for me to work on my stuff. To keep going - not stopping!; C) A reminder that I am not alone...I am very glad for the next class..." ~ Anonymous
"...Three things that stuck out: 1) how my money is spent: less for me, more for my kids; 2) Establishing boundaries; 3) If they're over 18, I don't need to be taking care of them." ~ Anonymous
"I realized some things about myself that I never considered a problem - but it is! I learned that there is a reason I feel the way I do. I need to quit blaming my mom and learn how to move on...I did get some self empowerment." ~ Anonymous
"I liked that everyone was given an opportunity to speak and be heard and the environment made for a respectful atmosphere....I appreciated the rapport that was made in the group. The environment was comfortable and made for a supportive group." ~ Anonymous
STUDENT COMMENT ABOUT DREAM WORKSHOPS:
My life was busy and hectic and I wanted to take some time for myself somehow so when I saw a
flyer on Donna Mays dreamtending group I thought I would give it a try. It sounded different and interesting and I figured Id meet some new people
It sounds pretty cliché, but its amazing how
taking a closer look at many different aspects of a dream can help me identify my Souls longings
